If white liberal men were as pugnacious in their defense of anti-racism as they are about Bill Maher

we would live in a better world.

(posted in the African American group for a reason, if you don't routinely post here, maybe don't make defense of n-word your first post in the AA group. Don't be that asshole)

I've been on DU long enough to know better, but I was nevertheless very surprised at the strong defense of Maher's offensive remark. How people who call themselves liberal, progressive or a Democrat could assert that it is ok to be in-your-face with a racist remark if you are a comedian or anyone just making a "joke" is beyond me. Otoh, some of these people may be the same ones who post on another "progressive" site where it was deemed appropriate to call Hillary a "c***."

I think what bothered me the most, LLP, were the white people who seemed to believe that Black people somehow don't know what is racist, some even going so far as to demand an apology from those who were offended! WTF? Whitesplainin' on steroids.

Yes, it would be a better world if white liberal men got a grip on the "isms" but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for that glorious day.

for political purposes on the internet?

I think it is.

Look at how many black posters, regulars, etc. who post here.

Less than a dozen? Out of thousands of DU posters?

So much to be learned from my point and the Maher thing, but I bet almost none of them will learn it.

like, they could have come down on this, atleast as strongly as HBO did, but they choose not to do so.

Maher is an asshole, I dont like him but I do like his show.

He derides his audience all the time for not laughing.

He isnt funny really either, but we need that show, we have so little.

He is a privileged white guy, nothing new there.

'but we need that show, we have so little. ' who is the WE who needs this show exactly? and why?

I live my life without this show just fine.

I meant we as in liberals, truth tellers, non cons.

I know lots of "us" dont like him, and I yell at him all the time, but the overall tone and show does do some good.

That is my opinion, based on how FEW chances truth tellers get on national TV.

But I respect opinions of others, for sure, on this, and I am talking about the show itself, not the ass himself. The show does give voice to resistance.

else.

Or not usually anywhere else. voices of resistance.

There are simply not enough time on TV of people who tell the truth.

I dont know why we would be against a TV show that routinely has on liberal people who are part of the resistance. I look beyond Bill himself, he is an asshole.

But racist liberals like their racial/gender hierarchy and aren't going to actively fight against it like Rs.

IMO After the maher threads this past weekend, there should be absolutely no confusion over why #45 won over certain demographics and what the motivation was.
