I don't know about you but I'm so sick of serial killers in literature, movies, and TV, that

I'd write a story about somebody whose life purpose was to hunt out and extinguish serial killers, if I were not too lazy to write it.

If the idea appeals to you, take it and run with it.

Criminal Minds

Criminal Minds is an American police procedural TV show. The series follows a team of profilers from the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) based in Quantico, Virginia. They specialize in catching serial killers.

about someone who goes around killing people, but is "justified" in doing so, because it's bad guys who are being killed.

I am definitely not the one who could write them, however.
