With two quarterbacks with such different styles, the New York Jets will operate their offense like "two different teams," according to left guard Matt Slauson.
Slauson, speaking at a charity event in New York on Monday night, said players were given that impression Monday as the Jets officially began their offseason program.
"It's like we're going to be two separate teams, but as far as I know, Mark (Sanchez) is still going to be our guy," Slauson said of new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano's plan to deploy both Sanchez and new acquisition Tim Tebow.
The Jets have maintained that Tebow, the No. 2 quarterback, will be used in the Wildcat formation, but a source told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio on Monday that New York will use Tebow as an H-Back, a fullback and as a running back.

This sounds like disaster.

(17,064 posts)Its difficult enough getting the backups enough reps with one offense. Getting the starters and backups reps with two offenses is impossible.

(29,322 posts)but there is only one way to find out who is right but seeing it in action and I look forward to doing so. It will be interesting to see Tebow in RB positions. They had some success w/ Brad Smith and see it as an extension of that w/ more wrinkles.

(31,184 posts)You can defend Tebow like any running back, unless he has the option to throw. But he's a lousy passer -- what's the threat in that? Plus he throws left-handed. Sanchez is right-handed. That's a difference in ball rotation and pass protection.
So, the bottom line: an untested back and an off-target passer creating inconsistencies for receivers and pass protectors.
Once a team tailors an offense around a specific scheme, it's not that easy to change mid-season. Or so I've heard.

(29,322 posts)but they still got some big plays with him in a wildcat but it looks like he could be pretty much a FB on some plays. He doesn't have to be a great passer to be effective in limited situations, he's good enough at throwing to make you pay if you don't defend, LT has 7 passing TDs.
The reason why I do is because with this news it appears the Jets are going to run, run, and run some more and those are the Jets I like. They kind of got away from that when they got those nice, shiny, toys(talented receivers). The quote that highlights what I mean is, "The way we're going to be running things plays right into Mark's strengths, running the ball. It'll be very similar to what we did in Rex's first two years, very much a style like that -- heavy run, heavy play action and whipping out a deep ball every now and again. That's all the stuff Mark does really well."
