Mucho Macho Man scores decisive Suburban victory

http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/racing-news/2012/07/07/suburban-handicap.aspx

Mike Smith, who has two wins, a close second, and a third in the past four editions of the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), may have another top contender in this year's handicap division in Mucho Macho Man.

Pairing with Mucho Macho Man for the first time on Saturday, Smith guided the four-year-old Macho Uno colt to a visually impressive 2 ½-length victory in the $350,000 Suburban Handicap (G2) at Belmont Park. Mucho Macho Man continues to build on a strong 2012 campaign as he secured his third stakes win of the year from four starts.

"I'm really impressed, to be honest with you. I knew he was a nice horse, but he really, really impressed me," Smith said. "From the time I got on him he was so confident. He left the gate in great order.

"For a big horse, he's quick! I mean, every step was a winning one. I couldn't believe how easy he beat [a strong field]. I mean, you put that bunch in the Breeders' Cup Classic, your favorite is going to come out of this race. He just ran them off their feet. I'm shocked at how impressive he was. I didn't touch him."
