(60,026 posts)Shoppach is in the way of Lavarnway, so he may go - pitching wise, their starters have been pretty dreadful, but not sure if Beckett is on the block. If they can keep people off the DL, it is now a decent team (though they have a hard time getting all phases of the game in synch - still hung over from last year's Sept disaster)

(9,709 posts)right now, I'm thinking Huston Street and his 1.08 ERA. He's in the final year of his contract, so you would think the Padres would be willing to deal, even within the division. If Sabean can get him relatively cheap...go for it. Casilla can go back to the role he had before Wilson went down..

(16,113 posts)Street would be better since both have an option for next year for about $10 million, but Street's 2013 buyout is 500k and Myers is $3 million. Street may be harder to get since I think they'll be more bidders for him.

(10,115 posts)One of the Philadelphia pitchers will be dealt to them. They have some quality prospects and major league level players that could get any deal done at any time. They will have to over trade, but I can't see how the Phillies can turn away from them. Greinke could also be in the mix, and I don't believe that King Felix couldn't be acquired with the right players.

(65,251 posts)And, with the way he's been pitching, he'll never be a hotter property.
Talk about Garza too, but they need someone to start games. I know it's full rebuild mode, but still need someone who can get somebody out.
Soriano is hitting lights out since he went to the lighter bat. Talk is that the Cubs are willing to eat part of the huge salary just to clean the slate.

(42,998 posts)Though apparantly it was just a "concept" and not real BoSox trade Carl Crawford to Miami for Heath Bell/ Hanley Ramirez. LOL

(7,429 posts)That would be funny. Of course Buster Olney said it isn't true. Oh well!!

(17,087 posts)I don't see how they could get anything near value for him, but then again, they've already absorbed the loss by losing him for most of the most valuable years of his contract. He needs more surgery and will either not last the season, or miss the beginning of next year, too. Worst signing ever.

(56,177 posts)As opposed to his relationship with Francona...either it's true and he's not on the block or he's doing some serious r**ming because he is on the block and doesn't want to go.

And what he typed centered on one of the key principles of this major league trading season, for the Red Sox and everyone else.
"Slow trade mkt due to new compensation rules + 11 teams in AL alone above .500 and w in 2 G's of wild card. In NL 8 teams w in 3 G."
Translation: July ain't what it used to be. And thanks to the terms of the new collective bargaining agreement between players and owners, the approach for all involved parties at the trading deadline is likely to change dramatically.
Let us explain. http://www.boston.com/sports/columnists/massarotti/2012/07/new_rules_altering_teams_trade.html

Just give us your closer with a year or two left on his contract.

(42,998 posts)The Bryce Harper of SF.....
Not even close to Harper. I think he needs a new start. Sometimes it just works that way.

(9,709 posts)trade him though..who's going to play 1B..particularly after the Sanchez injury? Still, I have worried about it some, I think Belt has a future and he plays good defense, but Sabean came out yesterday and said he has no plans to trade him..hope that isn't the kiss of death..

(31,207 posts)Sabean could be looking for a third baseman instead. I like the thinking.
Kuiper said watching Sandoval score from first is like watching a runaway beer truck. I like that name better than Panda.

(31,207 posts)I thought this would make sense. Depends who the Giants give up. From the link:
The Giants are interested in Indians closer Chris Perez, Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports report. The Indians, 47-48 after losing four consecutive games, are not planning a massive overhaul in the next week, since they intend to contend in 2013. Yet the Indians constantly gauge trade interest in their roster and could move established players strategically before the end of the month.
