Related: About this forumA couple upsets today in tennis...SPOILER
Tomas Berdych lost, he lost in the first round of Wimbledon so this could be a sign of bad things to come. Fernando Verdasco lost, which was a surprise...Donald Young lost, which wasn't an upset...he needs to stop and get his head together. Roger had a major lapse in the second set, but won. Serena won, and Ana Ivanovic won...haven't heard anything else about the women.
Andy Murray has Stanislaw Warwinka in the first round...I'd love to see an upset.

(32,111 posts)but I did check one of my sites quickly and knew about Roger's match. Not uncommon for Roger to start slow. Wonder what is up with Berdych. He went out early at Wimbledon too (granted Gulbis is a player with potential but Tomas should have beat him).

(56,177 posts)Just saw that the Murray brothers went out in doubles...yeesh! Li Na (or Na Li) lost, which was the big upset on the women's side.

(56,177 posts)A big one...Agniezka lost in the first round...the Olympics for some reason really bring out the worst in a lot of the players.

(56,177 posts)Andy is to face Djoker as Andy finally played and won his first round match today.
Roger won 6-2 and 6-2 against Bennetaeu (sp?) who took him to 5 in the third round at Wimbledon. Giles Muller is most likely his next opponent and I think Roger has a losing record against him.
Both Serena and Venus won easily.
That is all I know so far!

(32,111 posts)I knew he would be more focused today after the long first match.

(56,177 posts)He and Stan won their doubles match...took 3 sets, though.

(56,177 posts)Looks like they didn't get a lot in...doubles are being moved to tomorrow...must be rain.
Djoker trounced Roddick...sort of a surprise it was so easy.
Tsongas and Raonic had an incredible match...25-23 in the 3rd...wonder how Tsonga will fare tomorrow.
Only half the women's draw played today. Venus won..the other American with the ethnic name who only became a US citizen recently lost a tough 3-setter.

(56,177 posts)I caught Roger's score at 3-0 in the first, then when I looked again, it was 5-5!!! Had to leave, came back to see he won 7-5, 6-3. Hewitt should have beaten Djoker, but it wasn't meant to be. Looks like Juan Martin might go down. Serena breezed and Kim won fairly easily...lots of matches still to go.
TBF
(32,111 posts)but it must've been early. He told me not to watch because he wasn't playing well - but evidently he took over in the tie-breaker. Now that he's in the QFs I should be able to watch.

(56,177 posts)Never saw a full bracket...I think its Juan Martin, but I'm not sure.
It looks like he plays Isner tomorrow.

(56,177 posts)Here's the thing, I don't think Murray can beat Djoker in 5, but he can beat him in 3...should be interesting.
Haven't really been paying attention to how Juan-Martin has been playing...he hadn't played well a few weeks back at Wimbledon, don't know if he picked it up and will give Roger a run for his money, or if he had a lucky draw.
