Related: About this forumThe Hater’s Guide To Notre Dame
You're gonna hear a lot about Notre Dame over the next month or so, particularly from media types like Tony Kornheiser who have spent the past 20 years holding back a collective tidal wave of jism, waiting for the program to return to prominence so that they can declare how good it is for college football that Notre Dame is good again. The idea that Notre Dame serves as an EKG monitor for the overall health of college football is a lie, of course. Notre Dame has sucked for decades, while college football has been growing and thriving (and will finally realize its full potential in 2014 when a national playoff begins) over the same span. Whether or not the Irish stumble their way through a handful of wins against shitty service academies to find themselves in the national title game has nothing to do with it.

Sorry Joey but this article sums up my feelings perfectly especially this part:
No football program wears its religion on its sleeve more than Notre Dame. Even BYU isn't obnoxious enough to have Jesus overlooking the end zone. It's that kind of "we're more special than you" attitude that makes me hope that Satan will one day crawl out of the Earth's mantle and raze the entire Notre Dame campus with a single crack of his fire lash.

(9,002 posts)Kills herself a week later. And the dude is still on the team. Probably won't hear much about that on NBC.
Just read about it after seeing this thread. On one hand, this kind of assault can and does happen on any campus. But afterward, the young woman was let down and intimidated at every turn (more heartbreaking details than I care to post are in this National Catholic Reporter piece), and much of the blame for that can be laid at the feet of the school and its culture.
It turns out that when Kelly came in to coach Notre Dame also got rid of an official in the university's residence life office who had been enforcing the same rules of conduct on the athletes as all the other students. Since then what had previously been zero-tolerance offenses have been tolerated...
The changes became evident when wide receiver Michael Floyd was arrested for drunken driving in the spring of 2011, before his final season at Notre Dame. It was Floyds third alcohol-related offense during his college career, yet his discipline was handled by Kelly, and Floyd did not miss a game. With Michael Floyd, says Kelly, I was the beneficiary of the student code of conduct being updated. Residential Life is going to be the final authority, but changes to du Lac kept Michael in the university, which then allowed me to discipline him to the level that [I deemed]was appropriate.

Football 70.
That's pretty fucking good.
These are kids that usually come from inner-city schools and are doing the best they can.
Again---70 fucking percent graduate.
You almost sound racist here Joey?

Maybe it was the phrase "jism-fest". But given Brent Musberger will be all over this one...
I still think Notre Dame would have had a hard time winning the MAC championship this year!!
