so there's no sense in paying two head coaches and risking a situation like Kansas City has where they hired a coach based on an end of season winning streak that didn't carry over. Additionally, because the GM is also likely to get fired, there's no reason to even have a try out as the GM will want to bring in their own coach.

As for why he was employed at the start of the season, that I can't say.
