Two arrests in fan's fatal stabbing after Giants/Dodgers game

(AP) SAN FRANCISCO -- The rivalry between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers turned violent when a Dodgers fan was fatally stabbed near San Francisco's AT&T Park after the two teams played, police said on Thursday.

The victim, 24-year-old Jonathan Denver, was wearing Dodgers gear when he and the group he was with got into an argument Wednesday night with another group of people, one of whom was wearing a Giants hat, San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr said. The two groups exchanged insults about the Giants-Dodgers rivalry before the argument escalated, and Denver was fatally stabbed.

Suhr said two suspects have been taken into custody, but another two remain at large. He did not release the suspects' identities.

If they've got two suspects, they'll get the third.

The father of the 21-year-old man suspected of stabbing a Dodgers fan to death in San Francisco on Wednesday night told The Chronicle his son was attacked first by the victim and that he only wielded his knife in self-defense....

At first the spat was between the person making the insults and Montgomery's friend, who was wearing a Giants baseball cap, but it quickly escalated, said the elder Montgomery, who also lives in Lodi.

"Someone said 'S.F. sucks,' or whatever, and the kid with the Giants hat said something to the effect that 'No, they're the stuff,' or whatever, and then the altercation really broke out," he said.

"Someone swung a chair - it was the kid that got stabbed - and hit my son in the head. My son defended himself," said Montgomery, 47. "That's all it was. Everybody's making it look like it was a team rivalry, but really it was two kids walking."

Reminds me of Junior High when certain douchebags got angry if you accidental bumped into them. Same thing here, but with weapons deadlier than fists.

But this particular rivalry has had as many ugly incidents as anything you see in New York or Philly or Cleveland. Go see a Raiders game or sit in the outfield at a Dodgers game. Ugly behavior is common.
