Surprised no one has posed this story here...

Why would Lester use an almost neon green vaseline when the clear stuff would be much harder to detect? And, while that still pic clearly shows a green substance, the only thing I see in the GIF is Lester's fingers touching the location with his fingers....something, I suspect he does all the time, probably subconsciously as part of his routine. I wonder why the GIF wasn't slowed down to show the green stuff?
Seriously, I don't believe Jon Lester would risk his reputation in a WS game for a marginal improvement on the ball's movement...but I can certainly believe someone could doctor a photo - while accusing Lester of doctoring his pitch.

(13,447 posts)Hard to raise too big a stink over whether or not someone cheated when the other team played HORRIBLY all by themselve.

(37,540 posts)Perhaps it was the jitters of opening at Fenway. Their last meet-up didn't end well, either. I'll be interested to see how Wacha plays tonight. He's been phenomenal in the playoffs, but the pressure is going to be on him to stop Boston and keep the Cards from going 0-2....he's still a rookie and this is going to be the biggest game of his career. Should be interesting.

(56,177 posts)bad throws, bad communication, just really, really sloppy play I didn't expect.

(10,115 posts)the rosin will be back in his glove. Harold Reynolds had it right saying this is the norm for the game these days. There is no player asking the Ump to check the baseball or players requesting baseballs be removed from play. What once was common in baseball is no more.

(37,540 posts)It's about control, not about trying to get extra movement on the ball. He could grab the bag, but I see nothing nefarious if this was the case. Maybe MLB will have a problem with this, but if I'm a hitter, I certainly want the pitcher in control of his pitches. Some of us remember what can happen to players who get hit by out-of control pitches...I'm thinking about Tony Conigliaro here.
