Report: Mariners Willing to Offer Cano a Ten-Year $240 Million Deal

Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes reports that Robinson Cano flew to Seattle to meet with the Mariners today and they’re willing to offer him a 10-year contract worth as much as $240 million.

Previous reports claim the Yankees aren’t willing to go as high as $200 million, so if Rojas’ information is correct the money isn’t even close.

Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik predictably declined to comment about Cano specifically when asked yesterday, but was surprisingly open about the possibility of making a huge splash in free agency and sure sounded like someone who thought he had a real chance to land the second baseman.

Of course, $240 million tends to do that.

3. The Mariners have absolutely no idea what they're doing..

no real plan for the future, no nothing, just totally dysfunctional...which is why Eric Wedge quit. I still wonder why they didn't try harder to bring hometown hero Tim Lincecum back. It would have gone a long way to solving their attendance problems among other things..

Sure, maybe they don't have enough talent, but teams that have a strong organization often will do well, or at least outperform expectations in a down year, simply because of that support. Cano is too old, not good enough for this kind of money, and he won't fill the seats there.

but then again the Mariners took Brandon Morrow over Lincecum in the 2006 draft. That worked out real well for them.

All Giants fans owe them a big debt of gratitude..

They can have him. I'm a NNY fan but I don't think he's worth it. Nobody is.

He's there and ready to play for every game and he plays most of them. His lack of hustle on the base paths drives me nuts. When he hits a ball he stands there and watches it instead of taking off for first base like most players do. If that's what fans mean by questionable work ethic I agree.

He's gonna pretty much be their whole team, and people there might not be so accepting of that.

Frankly I'm surprised. I thought Robbie liked playing in NY more than he liked the big bucks. It really is all about the money.
