(29,322 posts)with the circumstances that both teams state that don't like each other. Someone on the 49ers said that he doesn't know anyone here that likes the Seahawks and if you find one let him know. Sherman joked that there probably won't be handshakes after the game.
I think this article is very detailed
http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2013/story/_/id/10321064/2013-nfl-playoffs-richard-sherman-takes-shots-michael-crabtree
Crabtree apparently called him out prior, there's a lot of head games and trash talk that goes on, Sherman just didn't censor it for the media which I don't have a problem with. I like this line he says a lot right here
"He said something personal face-to-face," Sherman said. "He knows what he said, and he knows I'm going to be tough on him the rest of his career."
on edit-
He is confident in his abilities so much so that he can't believe they even target him with receivers that aren't top level or #1. I can't imagine he'd say the same thing if it was Boldin. He seems to more honest than most other athletes when speaking to the media.
Here is more of Sherman's style and in one case, Trent Williams didn't appreciate it. --

(42,998 posts)It's never very smart to tell an already aggravated o lineman who is much bigger than you, to go ahead and hit you. I find this incident hilarious, Sherman basically got what he asked for.. ( FYI Williams does not have a reputation as a hothead)

(11,075 posts)But I didn't find it really offensive at all.
Edit: I am reminded of the 1972 NFC Championship, after which the Redskins' Diron Talbert said that Roger Staubach was "rusty" and "the wrong quarterback" to be starting the game. It was a jab and it bothered Staubach, so it basically worked.
I suspect that is the same kind of thing that Sherman was doing to Crabtree.

(29,322 posts)Who are the players doing that for? I mean saying, "He's great and we're going to have our hands full." That, who are they saying that for? The coaches? Do they all have a pact that says, 'Don't bash my players and I won't bash yours.'?

(9,709 posts)He'll get his eventually, his type always do. What's weird is how one Bay Area writer describes Sherman when he was at Stanford
Sherman is an ass of epic proportions, which we already knew. But to me its still surprising. I covered a game for Comcast several years back at Stanford Stadium, and after the Cardinal won I talked to Sherman on the field. Up to that point and for a while afterward, he was probably the nicest, smartest, most engaging interview subject I had ever encountered.
Either he's now putting on an act or some kind of PED rage has kicked in..
Goblinmonger
(22,340 posts)He was jacked up. Just made a play to send his team to the Super Bowl. He could just have been really jacked up after making a great play on a guy who trashed talked him. That's an option, too.

(813 posts)Five minutes later he was fine, had his professional face on. I wrote it off to the heat of the moment in a trash-talking, hard-hitting game.
Upton
(9,709 posts)claiming his remarks were due just the heat of the game because the SB was on the line suggests this was just a one time thing by Sherman, but it's not..
Goblinmonger
(22,340 posts)Likely, yes. It's his game persona. At the interview later he was calm and cool. That's his non-game persona. Or are we pretending that you don't have to have a certain level of bravado in NFL football.

(30,481 posts)I can't imagine the mindset involved in athletics at this level. What many of them have to do and think before and during a game to prepare for such athleticism and violence would probably shock many of us. Any given play in the NFL would send me to the hospital. Any given play in the NFL could end in a devastating hit or career ending play for a CB. Most of these guys do amazingly well staying centered during their interviews right after a game.

(56,177 posts)Seattle is the "juiciest" team out there...suprised there aren't more dipshits on their team mouthing off...he's scum, no it's not part of the game, it's the ranting of a thug.

(68,918 posts)That "thug" is a Stanford graduate in communications who ranked 2nd in his high school class.
It was hilarious. If we want to talk about idiots here, let's talk about Crabtree.

(9,709 posts)Fox producers made the decision to cut short the interview. They were probably afraid of what he was going to say next..

(1,508 posts)I'm so sick of the platitudes and bullshit, this was real. These teams hate each other and Crabtree dissed him at a charity event. Good stuff.

(32,084 posts)so my guess is that they probably weren't too kind to Seattle either. I'm going to give Richard the benefit of the doubt on this one.

(72,790 posts)Heat of the moment kind of thing.
I did think it was hysterical, but not offensive or rude or unsportsmanlike.

(65,134 posts)The taunting to Crabtree didn't bother me much. That does seem part of the game.
His going nuts on the sideline reporter was, while undestandable given that he had the emotions of making a game saving play a minute or so before, over the top.
If he wasn't ready to be interviewed he could have said "not just yet, i'll catch you in a few."
