Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice was indicted by a grand jury Thursday on third-degree aggravated assault for allegedly striking his fiancée unconscious last month.
Rice was arrested and charged with simple assault-domestic violence on Feb. 15 after a physical altercation with his fiancée, Janay Palmer, at the Revel Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J. Palmer also was charged with simple assault.
Conviction of a third-degree crime in New Jersey carries a potential prison sentence of at least three years and up to five years, and a fine that could be up to $15,000.
A video obtained and posted online by TMZ showed Rice lifting Palmer by her arms out of an elevator and laying her on the floor. Rice's attorney, Michael Diamondstein, has said the footage is authentic but incomplete.

(31,200 posts)I'd guess there's enough video evidence to support assault should Palmer testify to that.

(56,177 posts)Is that she started it...the elevator video should show exactly what happened...inside the elevator that is...all I've seen is him taking her out and looking around to make sure he got away with it.

How about "The video showed Rice Rice DRAGGING Palmer by her UNDERARMS out of an elevator and DUMPING her on the floor...as if she were a sack of potatoes!"

(44,578 posts)The ceremony had been planned for a couple of weeks, according to sources.
Rice's aggravated assault charge carries a three-to-five-year sentence. Prosecutors say that the complaint against Palmer has been dismissed...
Rice's attorney, Michael Diamondstein...told The Press of Atlantic City that neither Rice nor Palmer wants to move forward with the case. "We vehemently deny that Mr. Rice committed an aggravated assault," he told the paper. "Both Mr. Rice and Miss Palmer are together, they are happy and they're in counseling."
Well, what do you know? I've heard of playing for keeps, but this is ridiculous!

They weren't married to each other when the crime occurred.
If she refuses to testify, maybe they can have conjugal visits while she's serving time for contempt.
