3 grand slams in El Paso - ties a PCL record

Jake Lemmerman's game-ending grand slam gave the El Paso Chihuahuas a 13-10 victory over the Sacramento River Cats Monday and provided a climactic ending to the Chihuahuas first-ever homestand. Lemmerman's grand slam was one of three in the game, tying the Pacific Coast League record for most combined grand slams in one game, which has happened just two other times.

The Chihuahuas trailed 6-0 in the third inning but scored nine runs in the third through sixth innings to go ahead 9-6. The fourth inning rally included a grand slam by Tommy Medica, his second Triple-A home run of the season. Sacramento's Michael Taylor hit a grand slam over the center field wall in the eighth to give Sacramento a 10-9 lead.

The Chihuahuas put two runners on base with nobody out in the eighth but did not score. After Hector Ambriz pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning, the Chihuahuas loaded the bases on two hits and a walk before Lemmerman's grand slam ended the game.

The Chihuahuas have now hit two (?) grand slams this season, with Brooks Conrad belting the other earlier this season in Tacoma. Monday brought El Paso's first walk-off win and series sweep in team history. El Paso's Matt Wisler allowed six runs on eight hits in his Triple-A debut.

BTW, in case you are wondering why I'm so interested in El Paso, this was my father's home town and my grandparents and aunt are buried there. I've only visited a few times, the last five years ago. I like everything about it except the sand and dust storms. Also it is the AAA affiliate of my future home team, the Padres.
