Browns' wideout Josh Gordon was ticketed for speeding over Memorial Day weekend, and a passenger in his car was cited for marijuana possession.
The incident came as Gordon and the team await word on a potential season-long suspension for the receiver due to another failed drug test, this time for marijuana.
The Cleveland Browns declined comment, but coach Mike Pettine said there are times when a player just doesn't "get it."
"Sometimes guys get the message and it's too late," Pettine said, answering a question about whether the NFL does enough to help players while not speaking specifically about Gordon. "In all my time in the league, there's always going to be a handful of guys that just don't get it, but I think the league's done more than enough to get the word out."

Based on the history, I'd say his career is hanging by a thread. Will take a Herculean effort to salvage it. Damn waste.

many a good man
(5,997 posts)I think the Browns hired the guy to follow Gordon around to snatch the joints out of his mouth every time he tries to light up.

(78,249 posts)but the Texas Rangers, and presumably now the Angels, hired someone to follow Josh Hamilton around and do exactly that (with the booze and the drugs).

Weed isn't itself the thing that prevents him from being one of the superstar receivers in this league but the policies against it. Though the NFL gives out lots of second chances. He'll just have to be smarter about his use if he decides to continue.
