Tennis Emporium - Wimbledon - first spoiler of the day

LONDON (AP) -- Former U.S. Open champion Sam Stosur lost her first-round match at Wimbledon on Monday, beaten 6-3, 6-4 by former U.S. Open semifinalist Yanina Wickmeyer.
The loss continued the Australian's poor run at Wimbledon, where she has never advanced past the third round and where she has lost in the first round six times in her 12 appearances at the All England club.

http://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2014/06/stosur-loses-in-1st-round-at-wimbledon/51831/#.U6gkU7FnB_t

Also ... Murray is on central court destroying Goffin. Seppi is being challenged. That's about it so far.

Nine of Nadal's GS titles have come from one tournament. ....... Roger has 7 Wimbys, 5 Us Opens, 4 Australians and a French Open title. He's the greatest.

Nadal is no doubt the greatest clay court player of all time.

Pull up shoulders of shirt

Jesus he makes Marion Bartolli and her little things that she did look like nothing.

I was thinking that one of them should pay off one of those kids always on the sides and have them just move his little line of drinks around so that he is totally confused when something is a 1/4 inch off the line or the order is messed up. Then put one back in his pack. Just to screw with him. But that would be mean wouldn't it. MmmmHummmm.

Rafael Nadal survives big scare to see off Lukas Rosol

by Alix Ramsay
Thursday 26 June 2014

The scream of delight could be heard all the way back to Manacor: the spectre of Centre Court had been banished.

Rafael Nadal had overcome the man-mountain that is Lukas Rosol and made it through to the third round.

It may seem a bit odd to be celebrating the 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-4, 6-4 win of the nine-time French Open champion and 14-time Grand Slam winner over the world No.52, a bloke who splits his time between main tour events and the Challenger circuit, but Nadal and Rosol had previous. Nadal had cause to be wary of the big Czech with the pounding serve.

Two years ago, on a late, dark night on Centre Court, Rosol had caused the upset of all upsets by beating the Spaniard in the second round here ...

50. I think it was yesterday McEnroe
Sun Jun 29, 2014, 01:41 AM
Jun 2014

(who I have a like/hate thing with) was talking with one of the British commentators about Djoker. The British man kept pronouncing it 'Djahkovich' and McEnroe kept saying 'Djoohkovich'. McEnroe asked him if his way was the correct way since he always though it was with an 'ooh' sound. The other guy said he though he was right is was an "ahh" sound. McEnroe waited a second and then said, "I'll just call him Novak from now on." The way he said it sounded like he would not be caught dead saying it the way the other guy did. He can be such an ass.

The only thing I liked about all the blabbing today was that they really really all were all about Nadal taking so much time and annoying everyone with his long time between points. They got on about the bathroom breaks after losing a set, the clothes changing that seems to be happening much more and all of that but they really hit Nadal hard about this.

will get him flustered. I saw a bit where they are talking about the toweling off as well. He could be catching some pressure before long if not already. Talk about clocks to time them between points, restricting those who abuse bathroom breaks and trainer calls, restricting towel time and I think I saw one of the feeds talking about possibly changing the men to 3 set matches. I did not see that last one come up again so don't worry about that. I don't know how I feel about that myself. Whatever, they are not going to ask me lol!

Nadal up next. What a match previous.

Roger looks terrific. I do hope he can beat Stan however I would be happy to be for Stan at the end.

I will skip it. Blech.

I see Nadal did drop one of his little things. Now he is leaving out the crotch adjustment out of his pre serve routine. Butt pull, shoulder shoulder, nose ear, nose tap nose ear. The two newest additions to his pre serve were the crotch adjustment and the double tap on the second nose ear. I would say, whatever works for someone but he is just peculiar and it disrupts play.

Kyrgios is a fast player.

67. Serena Williams withdraws from doubles due to illness
Tue Jul 1, 2014, 01:31 PM
Jul 2014
The world No1 looked groggy and was barely able to hit the ball, serving four double faults in a row before finally deciding to quit.

It took the intervention of the umpire, Kader Nouni, to convince the American that it was not worth her carrying on in a second-round match that had already been delayed by 15 minutes after the warm-up, as a tearful Williams consulted doctors.

At one stage, the doctor told her: “If you can’t see the ball, you shouldn’t play”, but Williams, perhaps not wanting to let her sister, Venus, down, tried to play on.

Having been unable to even catch the ball thrown from the ball girls in the warm-up, the 32-year-old barely made contact when she served. The crowd tried to encourage her but at 2-0, 40-0 down to Kristina Barrois of Germany and Stefanie Vögele of Switzerland, Nouni came down from his chair to suggest to the younger Williams sister that she ought to stop.

100. and Martina Navratilova doesn't believe Serena's illness....
Thu Jul 3, 2014, 08:15 AM
Jul 2014

Serena Williams blamed her disoriented performance in Tuesday’s Wimbledon doubles match on a “bug” and “viral illness.” Martina Navratilova isn’t buying it.

The nine-time Wimbledon champion gave her thoughts about Serena’s odd on-court behavior to Melissa Isaacson of ESPNW.

“I find it distressing. I think virus, whatever they’re saying it was, I don’t think that was it. I think it’s clear that’s not the case. I don’t know what it is, but I hope Serena will be OK.

Serena was unable to catch, toss or hit a ball in warmups. Then, after a 13-minute medical break before the start of the match, she barely moved during points and hit eight consecutive service faults. She finally retired while she and her sister Venus were down 0-3 in the opening set.

But Navratilova had a more practical problem than just Serena’s post-match excuse. Why was she playing in the first place?

“I’ve never seen anything like it and hopefully never will again. Everybody was put in such a difficult position, including the WTA. It’s not right. It defies logic on so many fronts. The coach said he hadn’t seen her for two days. He didn’t know anything. How can you be a coach and not know anything? That’s wrong. And Venus was just kind of there. You don’t know what’s going on, but virus was not it, that much is clear.”

*I looked it up. As far as I can tell, the Hingis-"gorilla tennis" connection is purely an invention in this thread. She shouldered one of the sisters out of the way knocking into her at change of sides. When interviewed later about how she plans to compete with the power game brought by the Williams sisters she said something like she was not interested in trying to play gorilla tennis. I heard it and forever wrote her off. I don't care if she was a teenager. My kids and most kids who are not racists learn and do better than that by the age of 10. Transcendent tennis? Blech. Sorry, I think she is creepy. I heard this interview and heard her refer to Mauresmo as a she male. I hope she transcends her game all the way out of the spotlight.

Hingis is worse. I don't care if it is on the net or not. She was such a delicate little loved princess there are bound to be lots of things not on the Internet from those early years. Lots of stuff is and is not on the net. The term Gorilla tennis was used by Hingis when she was talking about the Williams sister. I heard it and saw it after she shouldered one of them into the chairs during court turnover. One of my sons asked me if she had really just said that and I said, yes she sure did.

She explained she had no plans to work out to beat the power with power because she did not want to "look" like that, men look like that. A true champ that is.

"She's here with her girlfriend. Well she is half man already." Yup that is pretty disgusting.

I don't care who you support. I personally just hope she disappears as quickly as possible. Maybe more white powder? Maybe crossing lines again and sobbing when she looses and coming out to the court for the ceremony in her Mommies arms? Lots of teenagers out there do not act as she has. I cannot stand the thought of that woman winning. She is certainly talented but she is also certainly a horrible person. If she were not she would have made news apologizing for all those things.

As I said, I don't care who you support and nothing you say is going to make me support her or change what I know about her, what I saw and what I heard. I was merely making the comment that she is a horrible person and I have no plans to ever watch or support her.

Stunning to me, like I said, even one of my sons caught it. Her comments about muscled women were priceless as she was photographed hanging upside down from a tree in her tennis skirt like a little girl on the playground. Awwww, the little Swiss Miss. That was about the time I was really starting to understand tennis. I was already a mother, in my 30's. I had not been allowed to do sports (get this, my dad did not want me to get muscles because then no man would marry me...HA!). My kids were learning with friends so I started taking lessons with the friends mothers. We had a blast, just an ever loving blast. I got pretty serious about it, knowing I would never really play but serious because it was a whole lot of fun. I watched those matches and slams like they were text books so I caught a lot of stuff that would pass me by these days.

She constantly commented that her "smart game" would never be able to beat those girls with all the muscles (said with a little sneer). She really is a piece of work.

Anyway, if the other poster loves her that is fine. Lots of people do, they can let this other stuff go. I can let some things go but never that, never. We are all different.

That French Open was one to never forget though. Man oh man.

Raonic so I do not know a lot about his game. What I have seen is his power. After yesterdays match I worry about that. Roger seemed unable to deal with the power part of Stan's game. Not sure if he was conserving energy at first or not but he seemed unable to respond to a lot of what Stan threw at him if it was done with a lot of power. Now of course he won in the end and he won well, but it just seemed harder for him than it used to be when faced with awesome shot making loaded with a lot of power. But...what do I know? NOTHING! LOL, tomorrow will tell.
