Panik in San Francisco
Giants 2011 first round draft pick Joe Panik made his starting debut for San Francisco at second base against the D-Backs Sunday and collected two hits, one for extra bases, while driving in a run in a 4-1 victory. Panik also made an impressive play in the infield, charging a slow D-backs Ender Inciarte roller and flipping the ball to first baseman Joaquin Arias with his glove.
Panik walked in a pinch hit appearance on Saturday.
He was hitting .321 in 74 games with Fresno this season, with 14 doubles, four triples, five home runs, 45 RBIs and 50 runs.
From the S.F. Chronicle: He arrived knowing he was merely "a link in the chain," not a hitting savior, and need only play to his capabilities and not try to do more.
Great approach. Great start. Panik could be a needed infusion of energy for a team playing a little hurt and a little tired.
And the name -- JOE PANIK -- you've got to love it.
