Sources: Rockets make deal to send Jeremy Lin to Lakers, free up salary cap room for Chris Bosh

In an effort to clear salary cap space for Chris Bosh, the Houston Rockets have reached a deal to send guard Jeremy Lin to the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Rockets will send a 2015 first-round pick, and other draft considerations to the Lakers to unload the final year of Lin's $14 million expiring contract that includes a salary cap hit of $8.3 million based on the deal's structure.

The Lakers will send cash and the rights to an overseas player, sources said.

Moving Lin to Los Angeles will clear most of the salary cap space necessary to sign Bosh to a four-year, $80 million-plus contract. The Rockets are still working to formalize a commitment out of Bosh, who will leave Miami because of the departure of LeBron James to Cleveland. The Rockets also plan to match Chandler Parsons' three-year, $46 million offer sheet with the Dallas Mavericks once Bosh has committed, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Let's see...that makes Miami, Cleveland and Houston as the three teams that won't win it all in the foreseeable future.

His defense which was never great, has gotten worse now that he doesn't have the speed to get some of the gambling steals he got in the past and his knee is apparently pretty shot.

But he's certainly shown a willingness to take one for the team with opting out and giving up 20 million for next season. Not like he's going to be paid the league minimum, but he's certainly not getting a new contract for 20 million.

and that was being the #2 option. Actually higher than Bosh. He played great in the post-season but struggled against a team playing terrific defense.

As a #1 option I still think he can be a very effective player. He has been dealing w/ some injuries so health and durability is a concern not only to missing games but playing poorly because of it.

He committed timely turnovers late in key games that swung the series to Portland. In the last game Lin made what would have been a huge 3 that likely would have won it but an offensive foul by a teammate negated it. Then one of the fastest producing players (he is at a James pace) in NBA history hit a series clinching difficult 3-point shot. Not only did he hit that shot, he was great the entire game. Unbelievable seeing a sense of him playing like there is no way they are going to win this game, he wouldn't let it happen.
