Michael Sam Has Been Cut by the Rams.

Dammit!

The first openly gay player to be drafted by an NFL team has been released.

Rookie defensive end Michael Sam was cut by the St. Louis Rams on Saturday, ESPN reported. A league source told the sports network that the team hopes to bring Sam back on their practice squad.

Sam may still be picked up by another team.

ESPN was recently criticized for reporting on whether Sam showered around his teammates as part of a segment on how the rookie was fitting in with the team. The sports network later said it "regrets" that discussion.

that just took a HUGE hit at DE, thanks to Baddell doing damage control post-Ray Rice.

He's so homophobic that he said gay players should wait 10 years after retiring to come out.

Of course he also referred to women as bitches and hos on one of his social media accounts, so he's probably just a dumbass all around.

While San Francisco the city might be welcoming to gays, the team has some way to go.

3. Methinks he'll still be on an NFL roster this year (another team).

The Rams just had too many good players at defensive end, but I'm sure there are other teams that are lacking good ones at that position.

Given what he's capable of (on film), he'll be too good to pass up.

5. He played well enough to get picked up by another team, and at the very least,

will end up on someone's practice squad. The Rams were already stacked at his position.

7. I think most cut players clear waivers at this point.

Once in a while a team will pounce on a guy, but not often. Leaves both parties free to negotiate.

Financial cap-related incentive to signing guys after the first game.
