Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly sits in box with Dan Snyder

Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder's public campaign to convince everyone that his team's name isn't racist took another swing.

Snyder was seen sitting in his luxury suite of Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals with Ben Shelly, the president of the Navajo Nation.

Shelly and his wife, both wearing Redskins hats, were sitting with Snyder.

Although Snyder would hope that Shelly's endorsement sends the message that the name is fine and accepted in the Native American community, the numbers suggest differently.

Shelly is a lame-duck president. He lost his try for re-election in a landslide and will be out of office Jan. 14.

The Navajo Nation Council voted 9-2 against supporting the use of the nickname.
