Heretofore, in college ball, you always knew who your opponents would be, sometimes years in advance -- and several weeks for the bowl game.
Now here comes this playoff. You get a whole week and a half to prepare for an opponent you didn't have scheduled. Could it be that Oregon and its Chip Kelly impersonator was thinking 'Bama all the way?

No, they beat Oregon in the trenches. And soundly. With a third string QB.

(35,446 posts)They can only win when everything is going their way. Run into a little adversity and they wither away. Stanford was able to beat them just by hanging in the game and getting a few stops.
