NHK Trophy – Japan (Figure Skating)

Here are the results of the final ISU Grand Prix event of the 2015 Grand Prix season in Japan.

Hanyu demonstrated that he is Olympic Champion condition by breaking scoring records in both the short program and the long program. In the short program he landed two quadruple jumps and a triple axel to score 106.33 points. In the long program he landed three quadruple jumps including a quadruple toe loop – triple toe loop combination along with a triple axel – single loop – triple salchow combination for a score of 216.07. His artistic marks also dominated the competition.

The ladies program was won by the 17-year-old 2015 World Silver medalist and two time Japan National Champion. The ladies all had minor deductions from their scores from under-rotated jumps to falls and artistic marks that were lower than normal. Mao Asada opted to do a double axel instead of a triple axel. Ashley Wagner was able to qualify for the last remaining position at the Grand Prix Final.

The Canadian pair of Duhamel/Radford attempted a quadruple salchow throw but she fell on the attempt. Their scores were aided by completing triple lutz jumps and higher artistic marks. The American pair of Scimeca/Knierim received a deduction on their quadruple twist, but landed their jumps and throws. They also qualified for the Grand Prix Final.
