Tokyo Olympics: '£9.98bn Games bill six times over budget'

19 December 2015 Olympics

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics will cost £9.98bn (1.8 trillion yen), six times more than the original estimate, it has been claimed.

Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported the overspend on its website.

It said the huge rise had been caused by unexpected payments for building lanes on highways, as well as rising material costs and personnel expenses.

Next year's Olympics in Rio has a budget of £2.38bn while London 2012 cost £8.77bn in total.

Wow, that might explain the issues they're having. They grossly underestimated the costs and then decided to stay committed to a smoke and mirrors budget.

Athletes going to have to pay for their own air conditioning and other stuff like that.

They sold their people a bill of goods, and the corrupt IOC, too.

If you remember, it came down to the final grouping when Chicago got axed. Lots of people here were against it.
