Jed York's joke at 49ers' expense draws few chuckles

You can't have a press conference involving 49ers CEO Jed York without "a moment." And York delivered -- quite awkwardly -- as he addressed the readiness of Levi's Stadium and specifically the complex's oft-debated turf during Monday's official host committee welcome at San Francisco's Moscone Center.

York attempted to joke that the 49ers did NFL senior vice president of events Peter O'Reilly a big favor by not making it to the postseason, which allowed the league to begin field preparations a month in advance.

"Peter asked us if we could not make the playoffs this year to make sure the turf was as good as possible," York said with a grin. "I said, 'OK, if that's what we have to do, then we'll take that under advisement.' "

Not many laughs at that one, understandably.

Hardy har har, Dork. If (or rather, when) this football thing doesn't work out, I hear there are plenty of available dates at the Improv in downtown San Jose.
