(29,675 posts)today was just the best drama in golf.....3rd round of the Players..... leader has been in front for two days.....actually 3 days because the 2nd round was delayed and they had to finish today plus play another 18 holes today. it is the best drama ever. Man/Woman against nature for 18 different holes, that change everyday for FOUR days!!! and just to reminisce......A Black man has won more of these tournaments then any other Man EVER.......outside of a few White men golfing prior to Golf letting Blacks, or any other minorities even play.

(36,444 posts)OK, the suits choose where the flags are placed, but damn, you know the greenskeepers are smirking when they punch the holes.

(65,078 posts)Putting the hole on the edge of a cliff is diabolical. Actually, few greenskeepers would ever even do that.
Quick story: One year in the club champtionship, they skinned the greens. Where i play there is a lot of sand in the soil, but we're too cold weather to have the kind of grass that grows in sandy soil. (Like bermuda, for instance.)
So, they usually keep the greens at no more than a 9. That year they had them up to an 11.5 and they put the pin on a 170 yard par three on a ridiculous spot.
I actually hit the green and on the first putt, it stopped a few inches short and came all the way back to me. Was happening to everybody. On my second putt i hit it a little harder and got it past the hole, but it stopped then came back to me, except it (extreme luck) fell in the back door. I was the ONLY player who 2 putted that green all day. Out of around 40 guys and a dozen women! Most people 5 and 6 putted the hole.
Well, the course owner was one of the contestants and he went to the club pro (we don't have a pro anymore) and they decided to give everybody a 2 putt, which mean anybody who hit the green got a par. I was an unhappy camper because i actually made a par. Guys who hit the green in one and 6 putted got a 3 instead of a 7. I got a 3 instead of a 3!
All that said, they have never put the pin there again.
