But wasn't she told to stop using that drug??

I just don't understand the arrogance of her and her team.

like some other use, because as you said, it does seem harsh if she simply had taken it inadvertently, and even if intentional, it's only the first offense...or is it?

I mean that country is so obsessed with winning at all costs that they forget to stop cheating

They are really cracking down on Russia because the cheating was so widespread, and across so many sports

Could avoid bans, but the punishment is in the ITF's hands, not WADA. The 2 years is a death sentence for her singles career at 29, though I'd be surprised if this wasn't reduced on appeal. I'll bet they figure out a way to get her into the olympics this summer, though.

Maria Sharapova banned for two years for failed drugs test but will appeal

The five-time Grand Slam winner said she "cannot accept" the "unfairly harsh" ban - and will appeal.

Sharapova will now challenge the suspension, which is backdated to 26 January 2016, at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas)
