Patriots fans take top spot in a new study

Congratulations Patriots Nation. In a recent sports analytics study released by Dr. Mike Lewis, an Emory University professor, the New England Patriots have the best fan base in the NFL.

In his sports, blog Dr. Lewis goes into detail about how he came up with the rankings. He uses a set of variables to determine the fan base’s investment in the team. He came up with the study for both professional and personal reasons and he loved that this topic could get even the non-academic types interested.

“It’s awesome when I can combine academic work with stuff that makes for sports radio or bar conversation,” he told Lifestyle in an email.

Dr. Lewis, who roots for the Steelers on game day, chose to look at which fans were willing to spend and follow their teams, because he wanted to understand fan passion and engagement.

At this point they probably do as well as Boston area sports teams. One of the reasons why Al Horford left Atlanta for Boston.

On edit: I hate they use spending money as I don't feel as if that makes you a better fan. I think things such as knowledge, enjoyment and appreciation for the game, etc.

His study is current, not historic. As for your preferable attributes, those are all things for which NE fans are generally known, and I support the sentiment, but spending and social media are quantifiable metrics. As BB would say, "it is what it is".
