Cowboys owner Jerry Jones named finalist for Pro Football Hall of Fame 2017 class as contributor

CANTON, Ohio -- The Cowboys list Jerry Jones as their owner, president and general manager.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame assigned him an even more important title Tuesday -- contributor.

Jones became one of the two contributor nominees for the Hall of Fame's Class of 2017, which could put him in the company of the Tom Landrys, Roger Staubachs and Emmitt Smiths with a gold jacket this February. Nominated along with Jones was former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

The contributor category was established in 2015 to give deserving candidates who didn't play the game a chance for their contributions to be recognized. General managers Bill Polian and Ron Wolf were the first two nominees in 2015 and former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. the lone nominee in 2016. All were elected for enshrinement.

On Tuesday Bloomberg reported that Rams owner Stan Kroenke had completed the deal to buy a 520,000-acre ranch in Texas. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the ranch had an asking price of $725 million.

This is doable, of course, for Kroenke, who is worth an estimated $6.2 billion.

But this purchase is also a stark reminder of how dirty Kroenke is doing the city of St. Louis. The city still has $36 million remaining on a loan it took out to finance a new stadium for Kroenke, one the Rams will no longer be playing in because Kroenke is moving the team to Los Angeles.
