Mark Davis says Las Vegas will be Raiders’ new home

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Nevada made a bold play Friday for the Oakland Raiders, officially offering $750 million in taxpayer funds to help build a Las Vegas football stadium that team owner Mark Davis said will be a “proud new home for the Raider Nation.”

Legislation to provide public funding for a 65,000-seat, $1.9 billion domed stadium off the Strip passed both the Assembly and Senate on Friday and now heads to Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval, who praised the deal. The governor’s office said Sandoval plans to sign the bill in Las Vegas, probably on Monday.

Davis issued a statement shortly after the votes, calling Friday a “historic day” and expressing gratitude to Sandoval, Nevada’s tourism advocates and the state Legislature, which voted Friday to approve the stadium plan.

“All parties have worked extremely hard to develop and approve this tremendous stadium project that will serve as a proud new home for the entire Raider Nation,” the Raiders’ owner said.

In the Bay Area, Raiders supporters said their fight to keep the team in Oakland is not over, even though there is no concrete plan in California to provide public financing for a new Raiders stadium.

They won't be the same fans. I doubt many of the Oakland faithful will be happy with their team hughee99 Oct 2016 #6

Never mind the 70,000 or so actual ticket holders. What about the tens of thousands of non-ticket-holding Raider fans who would descend on Vegas along with them on game weekends?!

All that's needed is for NFL owners to vote. I believe there would be more money to share around the league with a franchise in Las Vegas, so why would they say no?

stunk it up today against the Chiefs and after all these years of Bay Area fans being subject to bad football, it's a farce for MD to even be trying to move and asking for handouts. He should be ashamed to show his face around Oakland.

skipping town. They may make the trip, though, just to go to Vegas and cheer against them. Should make the 49ers happy, which would work out good if they were still anywhere near San Francisco.
