After six seasons, Trent Baalke has been fired as general manager of the San Francisco 49ers.
ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the 49ers were going to fire Baalke along with head coach Chip Kelly.
"It didn't surprise me," Baalke said, per Kevin Jones of KNBR.com. "We've done some awful good things. Some very successful seasons. Unfortunately regret we weren't able to bring a championship to the Bay Area, which they so deserve. ... Wish this organization nothing but the best moving forward. I do see a bright future for them."

This move has seemingly been in the works since early December, when NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport said during an appearance on KNBR 1050 Baalke appeared to be in trouble:
" Baalke) might be in some danger," Rapoport said. "That will play itself out. I know Trent has said himself, this falls on him, and if they go 3-13, 2-14 or whatever, and he's said what he's said, it's tough not to point the finger at him especially when he's already pointed the finger at himself."

The Niners will become the first team since 1976-77 to fire coaches in back-to-back years after just one season at the helm. Coincidentally, the Niners were the last franchise to do it, firing Monte Clark and Ken Meyer after each had a single season on the job.

(65,212 posts)What a smarmy, entitled little brat. I found him highly punchable.

(36,469 posts)York said that 59,000 people showed up to Sundays finale wanting to beat the Seahawks, conveniently ignoring the fact that the majority seemed to be wearing Seahawks gear.

(36,469 posts)You'll find a lot of serious Seahawks support in the Sacramento valley and in the coastal regions north of the bay area; these rural areas despise the Bay area, and all their perceived snobbery.
The same group are generally Oregon Ducks supporters. Hell, even this native Californian loves the Duck. That is, if they aren't playing Cal or my sons school, UCLA. But if the Ducks are playing Stanford or USC, I'm definitely with the Ducks!!!
