Highest scoring and first overtime (2bl).
I'm just happy that the Loser Sooners are gone.

USC beating Ohio State in 1980 was pretty incredible too even though it broke my heart.

(4,447 posts)That game didn't compare to this one. The post was about the game, not about the stakes. Greatest comeback in Rose Bowl history, from a team 17 points down to the best offense in the country sporting a dominant Heisman Trophy winner? And to take it in double overtime, with the guy who gave up the most costly fumble getting to score the winning TD? Best Rose Bowl ever, and it's not even close.

(182,829 posts)I was rooting for UGA. Their linebacker Smith #3 was getting worn OUT in the first half but stuck with it. That stonewall tackle on 3rd down was amazing. I can't believe that UGA won - from the way OU started and was rolling to the felling I had at the end.
It's pretty amazing that OU's coach Riley only took over from Stoops less than 7 months ago.

(29,322 posts)It would be a lot more fun to watch I haven't watched any of the bowls or the BS selection committee "playoff". I would like to see more teams have a shot do bowls for 6-6 teams but let conference winners and 14 at large have a shot there would be exciting games and exciting upsets involving teams ranked far low due to " strength of schedule"

(182,829 posts)Most teams schedule 12 games as it is. The ACC & SEC play 8 conference games an it looks like the Big 10 plays 9. Do they cut out all but say 1 cupcake game (which are revenue generators for small schools)? Do we not have inter-Conference matchups like the Kick Off Classic or Georgia-Norte Dame at the beginning of the year? ND has two traditional BIG games - USC and Michigan. Where does this leave the few Indpendents?
The Conferences probably won't like it and the schools want those extra games (as do the local economies).
I get your point but even if it expands to say 8 you're talking 3 more games on top of the 12 AND conference championships-- trust me those aren't going anywhere. Do we start earlier or do they play through the holiday break when no one is on campus? If it's at Bowls, are fans expected to travel to all of them? And the band? And the staff and cheerleaders?

(29,322 posts)It can be done and it would be much more exciting. Players get hurt bad in those Jackson State vs SEC games.
The ACC plays 9 conference games and so does everyone except for the MWC, MAC, and SEC who like to play cupcakes near the end of the year.
Edit I guess you're right ACC must want that extra breather game. PAC 12 plays 9.

(61,695 posts)Amazing game, and not having to again watch Baker Mayfield, and hear the announcers call him that and then remind us that he won the Heisman, is sweet. UGA looked great in the second half.
Hubby is hoping for an SEC meetup. I just want UGA to win the championship. Tomorrow, lots of people will still be celebrating and happy over this win.

(338 posts)... was the 1963 contest between No. 1 USC and No. 2 Wisconsin. The Badgers trailed 42-14 early in the fourth quarter but then in a span of 12 minutes put up 23 points only to fall short 42-37, receiving a punt at midfield as time ran out. So many passes were thrown by QBs Pete Beathard and Ron Vander Kelen that the afternoon game went into the evening. Without full stadium lighting, people in the stands, the TV audience, and even players on the field could barely see the fourth quarter action. UW's Vander Kelen set several Rose Bowl records that still stand, completing 33 of 48 for 401 yards, a very big deal in '63. That same fall, he led the College All-Stars to victory against the NFL champion Packers in the annual classic, then signed with the Vikings. The most used adjective to describe the '63 Rose Bowl: "Electrifying."

(21,107 posts)of the game play and the score, but also because I am so glad we don't have to hear the announcers GUSH over Mayfield any longer. Or see his smug mug on the sidelines.

(182,829 posts)Can't stand him. Think Cleveland (# 1 & 4 picks next year) will.....oh god please no. He's got Manziel #2 written all over him.

(21,107 posts)The Heisman Memorial Trophy (usually known colloquially as the Heisman Trophy or The Heisman), is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football in the United States whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity.

(61,695 posts)they always called him by both names, "Baker Mayfield", said he was a Heisman contender, blah blah blah. How many times did they mention the Heisman tonight? I think far fewer times in second half when UGA had a 21-0 run in the 3rd.
