(56,177 posts)I would have been surprised had they kept him. Don't cry for him, he'll get picked up...someone will be willing to take a chance.

according to this Sports Illustrated report:
Well, if Peyton didn't report the procedure to the Colts, they should let him go for that alone.
And after four neck surgeries, I think any team interested in him would be crazy to pay him anywhere near 28 million dollars. He's still damaged goods, still a question mark.

Apparently Manning is going to continue to play...so why not think about it?

(31,177 posts)Three years, and the guy still hasn't played one down of pre-season.
Manning ... heck, why not (even if I think he's crazy to play)?
There'd be another chapter added in the strange saga of Alex Smith.

(9,709 posts)Imagine if the 49ers had someone like a healthy Manning or a Brees, with their defense, they'd be instant SB favorites.
Alex improved a lot last year, had some great moments, but his failure, despite so many opportunities, in the 4th Qtr and OT of the NFC Championship game to even move the team into FG range, is just another indication the level of play needs to rise at the QB position..
