Greinke, Castellanos, Greene, Melancon -- big names at the trade deadline

Sources, rumors at this point ...

Greinke from Arizona to Houston for prospects -- WOW!

Castellanos from Detroit to the Cubs

Shane Greene (Detroit) and Mark Melancon (Giants) to Atlanta

https://www.mlb.com/news/zack-greinke-astros-trade

Ill bet S.F. traded Mark Melancon (if true) to throw free agent money at Bumgarner next year. Melancon was getting closer-type money for being essentially a set-up reliever.

Can't wait to see it all sorted out ...

There were some additional pieces since it was a three-way dead involving the Padres but Bauer and Puig were the two featured players.

the intention is long-term IMO, not 2019 playoffs. Reyes is under control until 2024. Puig was just the cost of doing business, unfortunately -- a rental, and a way to assuage fans for letting Bauer go. I hope in the brief time he's with Cleveland Puig's behavior doesn't corrupt the young guys.

Bauer wanted out. Might aswell get something for him. This is a good trade, if just for Reyers, Allen, etc.

Cleveland's July winning streak was against the dogs of MLB. The next 19 games they face playoff contenders or teams above .500 (Verlander totally shut them down last night on two hits). No batter outside of Lindor or Santana intimidates. 2019 started as a rebuilding year for Cleveland and somehow they just lucky. I think we'll see the real team emerge soon. They still have an outstanding rotation and bullpen, and play defense well, but the hitting stinks.

What I don't get is why Cincinnati would want Bauer. He'll cost them a fortune.

and both guys were involved in incidents of poor conduct just a day apart. Out of character for Bauer though.

I'd rather have Bauer's temperment though. Puig will be the biggest douchebag in Cleveland since John Rocker.

San Francisco admits they're not a 2019 playoff contender. Well, they're not. Glad they faced facts.

Dyson, Mark Melancon, Drew Pomeranz, and Ray Black -- four bullpen guys -- gone.

for a player to be named later. Gennett had been suffering from injuries to start the season but if he can get back on the pace he displayed last year, he'll be a real asset.

I like Joe Panik. Excellent defense. What happened to his bat?

An overall good day for the San Francisco Giants. Got rid of a FA and an overpriced reliever. Lost a good arm, but gained some immediate bat help and much-needed propects.
