2020 Horse Racing - An Empire That Will Survive Its Maker's Loss

Empire Maker passed away today, aged 20, at Gainesway Farm. Chris McGrath wrote a wonderful tribute in TDN today. It brought tears to my eyes and I wanted to share it with you all.

"The health of Thoroughbreds can be fragile, sometimes fatally so. Certainly there can be no presumption that the priceless genetic inheritance from Toussaud came at the cost of some accompanying vulnerability. But however evanescent the track career of a Thoroughbred, and however elusive the genetic key to success or failure, a name like Empire Maker will endure as a cornerstone in the wall of pedigree we assemble, year by year, securing them an immortality we cannot have ourselves."

think that TBs are born to run and for this reason do not want horse racing to be outlawed. HOWEVER, it needs to be completely overhauled and the profit removed. The TB is my favorite breed, I've owned 2 TBs. They lived a pampered life well into their 30s and I miss them every day.
