Former South Carolina and Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz spoke at the Republican National Convention last month and now will receive a higher honor from President Donald Trump.
Trump announced in a press conference Friday he will give Holtz, who spent 1999-2004 in Columbia, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. It is highest civilian honor the president can bestow.
Ive known him for a long time, Trump said, referencing letters he received from football coaches on Holtzs behalf. Weve analyses it very closely. Weve looked at all of those recommendations. Weve looked at Lous life and his career and what hes done for charity. The football was obvious, hes a great coach.
Lou will be getting the Presidential Medal of Freedom. A date is being set. It wont be in the too distant future.

(182,854 posts)Hes said that if hed gotten Randy Moss he could have won at least two more national championships. Moss ended up winning one (of their 3) championships at Marshall.
Lou was hired to coach William & Mary. Asked about his first impressions he said Walking around campus I see a lot more Marys than Williams. 1969-71
Jimmy Johnson was regarding by many as the heir apparent to Frank Broyles at Arkansas. Lou got the job 1977. Jimmy said screw it and went to Pitt the Ok. State then of course Dallas. Ive understood that Jimmy thought he had the job and that hed be a Razorback the rest of his career.

(216 posts)I have been a Notre Dame fan all my life but Lou Holtz is an embarrassment to a fine institution. Father Hesburgh wouldnt approve of this fool being a tool of the Orange fascist. Holtz had the nerve to question Bidens Catholic faith, what a hypocrite.

(13,871 posts)He compared college athletes playing football this year to soldiers storming the beach at Normandy.............because they both knew there were risks involved.
Worst analogy in history. In one case, you can end the unspeakable horror of Nazi domination of millions of innocent people, and in the other.....you get to beat North Idaho State.
