Bob Uecker Interview

‘Take care of people’: WTMJ Hall of Fame Brewers voice Bob Uecker keeps priorities on coronavirus-delayed Opening Day

“I’m more concerned with the well being of the country, of course,” the typically jovial but now-subdued Uecker shared in an exclusive one-on-one interview with Gene Mueller on Wisconsin’s Morning News Thursday, hours before the rebroadcast of the 2019 Brewers Opening Day thriller at 6 p.m. CT on WTMJ.

...

Uecker said he was extra excited for an early Opening Day on March 26, but then the pandemic truly hit America.

“When the news came that baseball may shut down, I don’t think any of us realized how bad this thing was going to be,” he shared.

“I’ve been around long enough for World War II, polio, things that came after that. I don’t think any of us were prepared for the devastation, the damage.”

I have an MLB audio subscription so I can listen to games in every market. I love listening to Uecker. Best announcer in MLB as far as I'm concerned. He has a Vin Scully deal, so he pretty much does home games only.

The Red Sox guys are a hoot, I dial them in once in awhile

The West coat guys are pretty good too-SF, Ariz and Colo

The Cubs guys are horrible, just too partisan

If someone on the other team makes a great play, UKE will let you know. He is always complimentary of all players

The Cubs have always been a homer broadcast - its what they do. Santo was so bad (from a technical standpoint) he was good. Pat Hughes would do play by play while Ron would be saying solething like "ohboyohboy" or one of the other many Ronisms. It was like listening to your buddy sitting next to you in the stands as opposed to a polished play by play guy.

you could feel his illness coming thru the radio

Sometimes you can work the Homer to your advantage, like when the other side is giving up a 7 run inning you tune in to hear the homer sing the blues

The St Louis crew is great, except for the 40 games Tim Effing McCarver "Guest Announnces"

The rest of the country got shed of that asshole when he retired, but the Cardinals decided to let him drone on endlessly for HALF our home games.

It infuriates me. He's been in the Cardinals booth for 2 years and still hasn't completed a damn thought. GET TO THE POINT TIM!

Ok, I feel better now.
