Some believe "Chesapeake" means something like "great shellfish bay, the Chesapeake Bay derives its name from the Algonquian word, Chesapiooc (Chesepiuk, Chesepiook, or Chesapoic), though its exact definition is unknown. (These shells @ base of my house a few miles from the Bay.)
