I don't know how people live with houses all crowded together.

Hey, at least it's a sunny day where you live. Here in upstate New York we see the sun about twice during November. The transition months are always the worst, weather-wise, around here.

after I retired. Have lived in apartments, single family home IN city, and condo community.
