Anyone have experience with those pocket electronic translators?

Are they worth it? They seem to be on sale permanently for around $80. But I think part of the fun of traveling is trying to communicate with foreigners. But that's just me. Thoughts?

Visiting a country might work with Point and motion. But when you live in one, learn the language. Translating gets old. You want to know exactly how much you are paying and the exchange rate of currency

You don’t need to lug around a device. Just use your phone.
