Osteen's Lakewood Church Suffers Theft Of Over $600,000, Shocking Texas Megachurch

Posted: 03/11/2014 1:01 pm EDT Updated: 03/11/2014 1:01 pm EDT

The safe of Lakewood Church in Houston, Tex., was burgled on Sunday, to the tune of over $600,000 in cash, checks, and credit card information, reports The Chronicle.

The megachurch led by celebrity pastors Joel and Victoria Osteen discovered the theft on Monday, and informed churchgoers of the burglary via email. Funds contributed on March 8 and 9 were taken, and church members who had given their credit card information to the church have been urged to check for any suspicious activity on their bank accounts.

"We were heartbroken to learn today that funds were stolen from the church over the weekend,” the message said, according to KHOU news. “This includes cash, checks and envelopes containing written credit card information, and it is limited only to those funds contributed in the church services on Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9, 2014.”

According to the statement, the funds were fully insured, and Lakewood is working to have them returned as soon as possible.

This is why we need to tax the churches as there is no way that church funnels $30M into charity work.

I remember reading in James Randi's, "The Faithhealers," how Peter Popoff and some of his inner circle perpetuated a "break-in" to their printing facility - broke a window to show how "satanists" got in (broke it from the inside out looking at the video tape), turned a hose on some Christian pamphlets printed in Russian, damaged a van, etc. and then after rubbing an onion on his cheeks, Peter tearfully stood in front of a video camera and filmed all the damage done to show his flock, asking for more money from them and explaining how Satan was trying to stop them from getting Bibles (the pamphlets) to the then communist Soviet Union.

There have been other evangelists who committed arson after taking out huge insurance claims on their property, etc. So when something like this happens, I wait for the other shoe to fall, and chances are, they'll beg their parishioners to donate more generously in the near future.

For some, it's like a game - even though they're not hurting for wealth, they like to see how much they can bilk out of their flock.

My trust in Joel Osteen approaches zero. Fully insured? Really?

Who would have guessed.
