Republicans writing creationism into South Carolinan state law, Senate unanimously passes it

which includes some Democrats.

Before Fair's objection, state Sen. Kevin Bryant tried unsuccessfully to insert a Bible verse into H 4482. This week, the Republican from Anderson, S.C., put forth a new amendment that was adopted, referring to the animal "as created on the sixth day with the beasts of the field."
...
SECTION 1. Article 9, Chapter 1, Title 1 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 1-1-712A. The Columbian Mammoth, which was created on the Sixth Day with the other beasts of the field, is designated as the official State Fossil of South Carolina and must be officially referred to as the 'Columbian Mammoth', which was created on the Sixth Day with the other beasts of the field."

Passed 35-0: http://www.scstatehouse.gov/query.php?search=DOC&searchtext=fossil&category=LEGISLATION&session=120&conid=7514380&result_pos=0&keyval=1204482&numrows=10#OCC1

28 Republicans, so at least 7 Democrats are also pissing on the First Amendment.

I'm in NC and the PTA meeting was also a silent auction for a bunch of "baskets full of stuff" donated by various businesses.

While people were reviewing the baskets, and writing down bids, a woman sitting near me started to talk about intelligent design and how it should be taught in the schools. She was talking to a few other people, but was clearly fine that I could hear her.

After a few minutes, she started on the watch maker analogy ... if you found a watch, would you think it "evolved", or would you think some one designed and created it. That nonsense.

So I said ... "Actually, watches are made by more than one person". She looked at me funny. So I said, "the components for a watch are made by various suppliers. And those components get used in any number of watches, watches that are designed and sold by different sellers." She looked angry, so naturally, I continued.

"Actually, it does make sense. There are many kinds of watches, designed by different designers. Those watches use many of the same components, and yet still vary a great deal. Life on earth is just like that. Lots of different kinds of life, trees, animals, fish, many using the same or very similar components."

"Which suggests to me, that there is not just one designer, but MANY designers. And those designers, are supported by many suppliers. So, perhaps what we should be putting forward in science class, is a model in which their are potentially many Gods, each designing different species of life, with angels acting as suppliers, working to provide the components."

"What do you think?"

After a long pause, she says ... "Looks like their starting to announce the winning bids."

The Creationists often hide behind Intelligent Design to help pretend its science.

They try to find questions that evolution can not yet answer.

So it occurred to me, do the same thing to Creationist ideas. Develop questions that use their data, but that they can't answer.

Their strategy is often called "God of the Gaps" ... they find a gap in Evolution, and then put God in it.

So I look for gaps in Creationism, and then fill them with something else ... like more Gods than they can handle.

Many of their arguments are better suited for a polytheistic world, not a monotheistic one. So rather than fight evolution versus God ... make them fight a polytheistic world versus monotheistic world.

It great fun!

the U.S. wouldn't be in the dire situation it is in today.

I actually had a right winger tell me once that children should not be told the "whole" truth, lest they turn out Communist. !!!!
