X-post from GD: Statue Of A Homeless Jesus Startles A Wealthy Community

A new religious statue in the town of Davidson, N.C., is unlike anything you might see in church.

The statue depicts Jesus as a vagrant sleeping on a park bench. St. Alban's Episcopal Church installed the homeless Jesus statue on its property in the middle of an upscale neighborhood filled with well-kept townhomes.

Jesus is huddled under a blanket with his face and hands obscured; only the crucifixion wounds on his uncovered feet give him away.

The reaction was immediate. Some loved it; some didn't.

In remembrance of me, heal the sick.
In remembrance of me, feed the poor.
In remembrance of me, open the door, and let your brother in.

That's the second verse I believe.

I think this is it.

I hadn't heard it before.

Sinead O'Connor did a fine version of one church song that I like.

And no photos were harmed in the recording of the song.

I saw the post about your brother and hope that all goes well for him. You are wonderful to come here where he has so many friends and let people know what is going on.

BTW, I am today in San Cristobal de las Casas in Chapas Mexico.

It is, of course, Palm Sunday.

As I am wont to do, I became tearful outside the church when I saw all the people coming from around the state to lay their braided palm leaves in the cathedral. It was a powerful scene.
