(40,416 posts)Doesn't stop me from drinking beer, though. It only stops me from drinking bad beer.
Americans seem to think that ice cold beer is the way to serve it. They also think that what most people in the USA like as beer is actually beer -- lots of bubbly colored water. Not much alcohol and zero flavor. No wonder they drink it cold.
Beer should be served cool, but never cold. And certainly not ice cold.
Sorry. Could not help poking a little fun.

(11,573 posts)cold beer is one of the Holy Trinity. The other two are cold lemonade and iced tea.
Haven't touched American "beer" in decades. Last time I was handed one, I watered a potted plant with it.

(13,496 posts)I know people overseas like to make fun of our shitty beers, but we've now got a tradition of exciting small breweries (thank you hipster artisans!) across the country with exciting offerings. Ommegang. Stone. Dogfish Head. Abita. I'm not even a beer drinker (wino, here!), and I have a favorite. I love Saisons and IPAs and just regular old Pale Ales. It's difficult to find a Ice Cold Coors Light in NYC these days. (At least it is in Brooklyn.)

(40,416 posts)And I like hops, too. So I am an IPA guy. But I like ales, too. A good porter is nice.

(43,890 posts)There are some Mexican lagers that are meant to be drunk at "punto muerto"; at the freezing point, or 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
Beer should be drunk at the temperature that it was brewed. Top fermentation and bottom fermentation occur at different temperatures.

While I contend that beer should be consumed at a temperature appropriate to its brewing, water and soft drinks another issue. I damn near pulled my hair out trying to find a cold coke in Germany during the 2003 "heatwave".

(146,218 posts)I never understood that part and it really threw me off whenever I was trying to calculate the 40 days between Mardi Gras and Easter.
Enjoy!

(13,496 posts)Sundays don't count bc there are actually 46 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter. Sundays aren't a part of Lent. (Though I'm not entirely sure why....)
