For thee last two weeks of July, Faitheist is being guest hosted by Sarah Jones, Communications Associate for Americans United for Separation of Church and State. The piece below is written by Jones; the views expressed do not necessarily reflect those of her employer.Chris Stedman | Jul 31, 2014
Atheist TV brands itself as an idea whose time has come.
But after its launch last night, its still unclear if the Roku channelthe first television channel specifically for atheistswill establish itself as a viable option for nontheists seeking serious, ideologically oriented programming.
The channel is a project of American Atheists, and the group says its intended to address an unexploited entertainment niche.
Were going to TV because its part of our strategy of going to where we are not, American Atheists president, David Silverman explained in a statement. There is a lot of potential here. From televangelists to Christmas specials, there is a plethora of religious TV programming to choose from. With Atheist TV, were filling a void: There are a lot of atheists and closeted atheists who are curious and want more. We have it, and the next step is bringing it to them.

I am agnostic. And I just can't think what would be on this channel. Science? History? Playboy? All would fit but I doubt that be where they be going.

(11 posts)Two Richard Dawkins posts in two days. Is this to become a regular outing like your regular posts fawning over the awesomeness of the new Pope?

(82,333 posts)Now, exactly what posts, fawning or otherwise, about the Pope do you think I've put up?
I'll check back for your answer in February.

(11 posts)I do not post often.
Now, exactly what posts, fawning or otherwise, about the Pope do you think I've put up? That was your question. That was your response. It says ALL I had assumed. I am tickled that you believe I will play the same games as you on various internet message boards. Why should I bother to copy and paste anything when the entire history of your posts here on DU are available to any user? 2 Posts...you like to belittle people right? Feel better?
rug
(82,333 posts)What various internet message boards do you think I frequent?
I'm honored two of your three DU posts are directed at me.
Dude. I am not NSA. I am not stalking you. I have NEVER thought about other message boards you have visited. And instead of welcoming like ANY OTHER member of the DEMOCRATIC PARTY would you instead chose to take another jab at me by making my THIRD post ALL about you. Nasty nasty nasty. I hope you are not around young people on a regular basis. 4th post for you FOREVER ALONE!

(146,218 posts)He is often posted about here, as atheism is a topic of interest to many who frequent this group.
So is the pope.
If that is bothersome to you, you can block those threads using the word recognition function.
Welcome to the Religion group. I hope you will spend some time and get to know people before passing judgement.

(40,416 posts)Don't watch Atheist TV.
I'm just sorry I don't have download capacity to check it out. Here in the back woods we don't have luxuries like broadband Internet, or Cable TV.
But I am sure that we're going to soon hear from the usual suspects just how bad Atheist TV is.
Thanks for the article, rug.

(146,218 posts)Sarah Jones did and I don't think she intends to watch it.
Who are the usual suspects?

(1,242 posts)As many televangelists as there are in the world, atheists certainly deserve a channel of their own.

(146,218 posts)I am sorry to hear that there were bits that would alienate agnostics, humanists and even certain kinds of atheists.
I hope Silverman doesn't also start carving out democrats as a group he is not friendly towards.
I've only read one other review and it was fairly positive.
Anyone else watched it?
