A familiar conversation, from a different perspective.

A Conversation Between Two Atheists From Muslim Backgrounds (Part 3)

I have seen that you have been called an Islamophobe as well, much more than me, and you also lived in Muslim-majority countries for a longer period of time and have more knowledge about Islam than I do. How do you handle these accusations, and what do you think is the best response?

Ali: I actually find the "Islamophobe" label encouraging. The moment people can't respond to your argument anymore, they label you a bigot or Islamophobe. As I've written before, it's the ultimate lazy excuse for not having a counterargument. When I hear it, I know the other side has run out of fuel. It doesn't bother me one bit. And yes, I've gotten the "Uncle Tom" thing too -- even from white people, which is somewhat amusing.

I surprisingly get the most aggressive criticism from so-called "moderate" Muslims. Recently a prominent Muslim blogger wrote a post calling people like me "Talibani Atheists". He's not the only one.

Faisal: I have read the "Talibani Atheist" article. It's one of the funniest things I have read in a long time. I thought it was an article from The Onion first and was surprised when I found out it wasn't. I told the author of the article, as I always tell many of those who focus most of their energy on bashing atheists and critics of Islam, to redirect their energy to those who are actually doing the killing on a daily basis.

Great quote: "Never apologize for openly and unabashedly calling out bad or dangerous ideas, no matter how sacred they may be to someone. Being hurt or offended doesn't make a person right. Ideas are not people -- it's OK to challenge them and attack them."

Both think they are superior to any other religion, both go to war in the last 1300 years to prove it, Christians have been going to war longer.

NO?

What am I missing?

Oh, wait! Christians have a Pope, and much more money concentrated in Rome.

Muslims, not so much money, and certainly not in Rome.

What's the difference? Both are religions that demand respect, right?

So, what's the difference between devout Muslims and devout Christians, please explain.

Or maybe that's a question you Christians (or Jews or Muslims) cannot answer.

Religion: it's what's for breakfast and for the rest of the day.

It's too bad you cherry picked those parts that suit your agenda.

(You want some deja vu, EvolveOrConvolve? There ya go.)

Be sure to read the comments - "tildeb" knocks one out of the park:
To claim that New Atheists Harris and Ali are promoters of bigotry when, in fact and deed, they demonstrate inclusiveness for all people with sacrosanct equality legal rights and autonomy, is beyond ludicrous: it is lying. It is an intentional falsehood used solely not to represent what's true, not to be honest in description, but stated to intentionally malign their characters.

Not satisfied with just maligning their characters with this false accusation of bigotry, you equate their justified criticism of islam (based on scriptural authority to reject legal equality and autonomy of individuals) to be equivalent to people who throw acid in the faces of girls who want to go to school and learn. This makes your assertion malicious. That's what this post of your demonstrates and that is your post's demonstrated intentions. You vilify those who champion your right to be able to form your own opinions and then vilify them for doing the same (in the name of moderate islam, of course). This is religious apolgetics at its finest, and you should be ashamed for your lack of character to participate in spewing it.
