I was watching some megachurch televangelist from Texas

It was just something I ran across between changing channels, so I'm going to have to live with a paraphrase, but this guy was leading the entire mega-congregation in some kind of oath -- hand on bible, hand in the air, etc:

" ... I affirm that the bible says I'm allowed to do some things, and not allowed to do others. I swear to live by these rules ... "

It really creeped me out, because the entire subtext of this oath was like Pastor Megachurch and his mega-flock are all some theocratic 5th column living among us, sworn to live by whatever rules Pastor Megachurch claimed were implied by the bible, and specifically that these overrode any actual laws of the united states. Like a giant creepy extension of Burwell v. Hobby Lobby.

I've hated these TV megachurch shows for at least 30 years, but I don't remember seeing that kind of oath weirdness. Not that I pay a lot of attention. Is this kind of thing normal these days?

They say their followers are bound to follow the latest science, and therefore those seeking abortions, are exempt from irrelevant probes and propaganda. They want the same exemptions as Hobby Lobby.

plus taking an oath is actually AGAINST Scripture: (Mtt 5:36-37) "Nor shall you make an oath by your head ... But let your Yes be Yes and your No, No and anything beyond that is evil."

They inflicted him on us in assemblies in the gym at a PUBLIC junior high school, decades ago.

He got away with it because he didn't mention god or jesus. He talked about "the best friend you'll ever have".

Bastards.
