Washington Post conservative columnist, George Will, a self-proclaimed atheist, does not agree with the notion that "conservatism without religion is meaningless."
According to NewsMax, "In a wide-ranging interview, Pulitzer Prize-winning writer George Will discusses baseball, politics, and his status as an atheist."I'm an atheist. An agnostic is someone who is not sure. I'm pretty sure. I see no evidence of God," Will told Real Clear Religion."
Will is quoted as saying that, "Russell Kirk never quite fathomed this, which is one of the reasons why I'm not a big fan of "The Conservative Mind." For him, conservatism without religion is meaningless."
As reported by NewsMax, "This is not the first time Will, a conservative who has written several books on politics and baseball, has made his views on religion public. In May, he told The Daily Caller that he was an atheist."

(14,255 posts)Actually, when I look around at all the misery and killing in this world, even if an "all powerful deity" appeared right in front of me - I sure would not consider it superior in any way whatsoever.

(115,732 posts)George is pretty stuck on himself. There are many reasons for being an atheist/agnostic, most of which are entirely rational and sensible. I was just picking on Will's all-purpose pomposity and not intending to cast aspersions on atheists in general.
