ESPN Suspends Keith Law From Twitter For Defending Evolution

Heavy-tweetin' ESPN baseball writer Keith Law has been noticeably silent for the last couple of days. That's no coincidence—he's been given a Twitter timeout by ESPN, and we're told that it's for loudly and repeatedly defending Charles Darwin from transitional fossil Curt Schilling, his Bristol colleague.

Schilling, the former pitcher who rejoined ESPN as a baseball analyst in September after eight months away to deal with mouth cancer, took to Twitter on Nov. 12 to rail against evolution and in favor of creationism.

Law jumped in with a series of Tweets—slightly fractious, but fact-based and generally respectful—disputing Schilling's claims, and those of other Twitter users. A sampling:
...
It went on for a while, even edging into arguments about vaccination. But something rubbed Bristol higher-ups the wrong way. Law was ordered to stay off Twitter on Wednesday. A source tells us he'll be allowed back on Twitter on Monday.

Curt Schilling continues to tweet:

How is our Attorney General warning POLICE OFFICERS in Ferguson, not to escalate?? How about warning the people that are going to riot?

So, being an idiot with creationist posts, and now political ones, good; pointing out science, bad. Way to go, ESPN. Did they change into EWTN without anyone noticing?

1. Kent Hovind. Unfortunately his dance card is full. (Serving time in federal prison)

2. Ray Comfort. Well, lookie here, the banana is... That's right. Dun, dun, DUNNNNN!n The atheist's nightmare.

Yup! He really is talking about a banana. Sometimes a banana is just a banana. And sometimes it isn't. Kirk Cameron is there so one may never know for sure.

3. Chuck Missler and yup! Peanut butter falsifies... Dun, Dun, DUNNNNN! Eviloootion!

The atheist's nightmare?

Apparently atheists are tossing and turning all night because of bananas and peanut butter. Well, they would be nice on a sandwich at lunch, or even a night time snack. But these dudes have it wrong.

Just like ESPN.

I suspect his rather abusive rantings may have played a part.

Is there any reason to think that ESPN executives are creationists?

Update: ESPN has responded with a statement:

Keith's Twitter suspension had absolutely nothing to do with his opinions on the subject.

Correcting Schilling's idiocy wasn't expressing an 'opinion', of course.
