Appreciation thread for RenewDeal and all the hosts of religion past, present and future.

I don't think we could ask for a better lead host than RenewDeal. This most recent thread shows just how much respect he has. In a group as contentious as this, the ability to stay above the fray, ask for input and proceed without ever having a hint of incivility is notable and much appreciated.

And to all the hosts that have taken a turn here, hats off. It's a pretty thankless job and if you are at all a lightning rod, it can be pretty damn impossible.

I think we started with cleanhippie during the initial transition from DU2 and many have come and gone since then. Mistakes have been made, but the group has continued and has been very fairly hosted, imo.

So, my thanks to all that make this group what it is and particularly to RenewDeal.

Maybe we could have a fun irreligious holiday for a few days!

I don't think the hosting arrangement has ever worked particularly well. What "works" is that we hardly ever need hosts to do something. The problems we've had are hosts misbehaving - abusing their power or position.

surrounded by love and health and warmth.

And I agree that we should give RenewDeal all the respect he is due, which is quite a bit. I wish to be more like him, but I'm not optimistic!

or try to silence points of view they don't like. But I'm sure anyone offended by that is just a horrible malcontent who should go away, right?

To live in this world at this time with the ability to access pretty much any information we want and be informed…. who could ask for more.

We just had a whale 30 feet off our boat. We are heading south while it is heading north and it put on a wonderful show for us. Came about halfway out of the water, twisted and slammed itself down. It did this about 4 times before going back down.

Amazing, just amazing.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season, Jim.

I was host for several months and it was interesting.

I always encourage people to try hosting or mirt. It is an eye opener and a learning experience. Mistakes will be made but things always work out.

My best to the hosts and members of this room.

It's like being an anesthesiologist - 90% boredom and 10% chaos.

Pretty much everyone learns from mistakes. As long as something is done in good faith and without malice, it's all good.

I like DU3 and think it gives more people the opportunity to get involved, which is a good thing.

Have a great holiday, justin.

I've been celebrating just about every conceivable December holiday with a multicultural crowd of family and friends. And eating tamales, which are a huge part of the Christmas season here. (Everybody goes back to salads and broiled chicken on January 7.)

Edited to add: longship, I hope you can find some good ones up there in the frozen north!

There are probably going to be multiple stands put up for the Buen Noche.

I wish I could send longship some. He loves him some tamales.

There are few on this site who could even dream of filling your shoes. You are, without a doubt, one of the most standup people here.
