(69,059 posts)... that even with everything, everywhere, advertising Easter this and Easter that on every storefront, restaurant and and business, that every corner of the intrernet (including Democratic Underground) all had to conform to one particular idea of what Easter is about.

(146,218 posts)If you don't understand that this is the corner where Easter actually is defined as a holy day, then I don't think there is anything else I can say to you about it.

The privileging of Christians and Christianity excludes the needs, concerns, religious cultural practices, and life experiences of people who are not Christian."

(146,218 posts)Would it be ok to mock Mulslims during Ramadam? GLBT people during gay pride parades? Blacks on MLK day? Atheists during the Reason Rally?
Or would it be better to respect what they find important and leave them alone if you don't share in their celebration?

(7,981 posts)It's a satire that mashes the Easter Bunny with the story of Jesus. You need to get that chip off your shoulder.

(8,763 posts)Respect for people is different, as you well know, from respect for beliefs. If you want respect for your beliefs, earn it.
Of course, as was already said, calling this video disrespectful to Christians is quite a stretch. I think you just put an extra chip on your shoulder for the weekend.

You really need to either step down from being a host or stop trying to make this group into what you want instead of what the admins meant it to be.

(69,059 posts)... and then try to pretend that they have something to do with Jesus, there wouldn't be this sort of thing, now would there?

<snip>
The March or spring equinox is used as a determinant for what modern Christians celebrate as the holy day of Easter.
The Easter date depends on the ecclesiastical approximation of the March equinox. In 325CE the Council of Nicaea decided that the Easter date would be the first Sunday after the first full moon occurring on or after the March equinox. Easter is therefore delayed one week if the full moon is on Sunday, which lessens the likelihood of it falling on the same day as the Jewish Passover. Eastern Orthodox churches in many countries such as Greece still figure their Easter date based on the Julian calendar.
Though I was sent to church by my mom, and confirmed a Lutheran, my socialist dad and his friends were staunch atheists. My Baptist grandmother had already become a Bahá'í by the time I was born in 1947 and our neighbors in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn were Orthodox Jews, and around springtime they were at seders, which we attended.
Surrounded by multiple faiths, and non-beliefs, and absorbed by an early interest in anthropology and archaeology, my childhood was filled with books like The White Goddess, The Golden Bough, and Bulfinch's Mythology. As a young adult I discovered Joseph Campbell's The Masks of God.

(17,505 posts)So... he shoulda waited til tomorrow?
Why would this insult and ridicule anyone.... unless of course you really do think all the Christian stuff is actually BS and your faith is a sham. If you truly believe, none of this should bother you. Pointing out the absurdities of Christianity shouldn't faze you at all.... if you truly believe. Right?

I'll confess to being an agnostic. As such I may hold that all religions provide some good teachings.
I also think all religions have some very screwed up fables and ideas.
If you believe that god sent his only son to save us, then be at peace.
Would not such a god care about the critters of the world?
Trust me on this one, if their is a god they have a sense of humor and are probably displease that we so neglect ours.

(15,064 posts)be a tragic yet redeeming time in Christianity. With chocolate crosses at Walmart and candy Jesus figures what is appalling and vile is that 'supposed' Christians actually buy and eat them. In Biblical times it was forbidden to even say the word meaning God out loud. God was referred to as Master or Lord.
